Yakima Chief Hops Supports Black is Beautiful

by | Jun 11, 2020

At Yakima Chief Hops, we recognize and embrace the diversity of not only the hop and brewing industry but of our global communities. We recognize the color of peoples’ skin and the injustices they face because of it. We recognize that this is a systemic issue that is woven throughout our nation, from our justice system to our healthcare system.

This is not about politics. This is about humanity. We believe in promoting inclusivity by the way we interact with our communities as well as promoting anti-racism by the way we support and acknowledge black, indigenous and people of color.

As a family owned and focused organization, we feel a responsibility to stand for what we believe in and be an example for others. While the world fights for the basic human rights of ALL people, we wish to elevate and amplify those voices in any way that we can.

BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL

We have been given the incredible opportunity to support this important dialogue through the Black is Beautiful initiative, organized by Weathered Souls Brewing. Nearly 550 breweries (and counting) across the globe have joined this collaborative beer project in the pursuit of drawing awareness to these injustices, bridging the gap and supporting equality and inclusiveness.

We invite you to join us as we work to make a direct and positive impact on this movement. We recognize that this is a deeply personal and emotional topic for many and want you to know that YCH stands with you in your choice to get involved and speak up.

Weathered Souls Brewing has created a special stout recipe for participating breweries to use to create their own Black is Beautiful beer. They have also provided tools to help you promote your beer, including label design and printing assistance. They ask that the breweries donate 100% of the beer’s proceeds to local foundations of their choice that actively work to support police brutality reform and legal defenses for those who have been wronged.

Yakima Chief Hops is providing the Cascade hops for the recipe at a discounted rate of $5.51 per pound. With this price, YCH makes zero profit. We hope to allow breweries the opportunity to put more dollars back into the meaningful foundations that support the Black Lives Matter movement.

The brewing industry is a powerful community that continues to inspire us. Whenever we as people are called on to support others, brewers are always one of the first to show up for the cause. From farming to brewing, we stick to what we do best, while creating something bigger than beer along the way. We thank you for always remaining united and will continuously seek ways that we can uplift and empower our communities during these crucial moments in history.
