Yakima Chief Hops is connecting heroes from field to pint with our annual Veterans Blend. Brought forth by our own military Veteran employees, this project aims to collaborate with Veteran owned breweries, and show our appreciation to the men and women of the US military.

Each year, we collaborate with military Veteran brewers representing multiple branches of the US Armed Forces to select a different hop blend. It is sold as traditional T90 hop pellets in both commercial and homebrew packaging.

The 4th Annual Veterans Blend is comprised of five different Pacific Northwest-grown hop varieties including Idaho 7®, Ekuanot®, HBC 472, HBC 630, and Azacca® hops. The blend creates a hop pellet with a much wider range of flavor characteristics than could be provided by any one variety alone.

Each year, we also partner with a different nonprofit organization that supports various aspects of the Veteran community and brings value to the lives of those who have served. This year, we are pleased to provide a charitable donation to K9s for Warriors, whose mission is to end Veteran suicide by providing highly-trained Service Dogs to military Veterans suffering from PTSD, traumatic brain injury and/or military sexual trauma.
With the majority of dogs coming from high-kill rescue shelters, this innovative program allows the K9/Warrior team to build an unwavering bond that facilitates their collective healing and recovery. This treatment method is backed by scientific research (from Purdue University’s OHAIRE Lab) demonstrating Service Dogs’ ability to help mitigate their Veteran’s symptoms of PTSD while simultaneously restoring their confidence and independence. More information on K9s for Warriors can be found at www.k9sforwarriors.org.

The release of the Veterans Blend is timed accordingly, as commercial brewers are encouraged to purchase the blend by September in order for the hops to be shipped in time to brew and pour celebratory beers by Veterans Day. The Veterans Blend will also be available in homebrew packaging in early Fall and homebrewers are encouraged to participate in a celebratory Brew Day on November 11th in honor of our Veterans.

With this community blend, we hope to inspire brewers to brew beers that multiply these efforts and celebrate US Armed Forces. We also encourage brewers to involve their neighboring veterans in the celebratory brewing process, creating a positive and exciting experience for members of this community.

Pre-sale of the 4th Annual Veterans Blend will begin on July 4th.
